And, damn, you can pick them up for cheap! Thanks Mr. Regular, I have something to aspire to in my rapidly approaching middle age.

Do it. Except, wrong vette. Let me show you what you could have for 20k, and explain why it’s better: http://oppositelock.kinja.com/1990-1994-c4-z…

This is indeed the only modern corvette that is a good investment. But as far as fun goes, I’d go with the C5. The chassis of the C4 sucks pretty bad and the C5 is just better, even with 50hp less. Or for 20k$, I’d simply go for a C5 Z06, whcih is just much better everywhere than the other two.
Then again, the only one that is a good investment and won’t loose anymore value is the C4 ZR-1

I owned a C4 (Albeit not a ZR-1), and in my opinion there were only two problems with the chassis: It rode a little rough, and when you’re giving it 10/10 through the corners, it doesn’t give you much time to react to what it’s about to do. However, that second part is a problem with the C5 as well, and if you’re pushing one that hard, you’re driving beyond your limits already (unless you’re a
really
good driver).
Even if the chassis is a good deal better, you’re still going to have to put up with that godawful interior every day, and the exterior of the car really doesn’t do it for me. I don’t think the C5 is ugly, it just looks like some Corvette. Beyond that there’s no flair. All Vette designs are representative of their time, but in the C5 is the only one that suffers for it. The 90s were a pretty lackluster period in terms of aesthetics, and it really shows in the C5.
All that being said, the ZO6 would be a very good choice. Base C5 to ZR-1 is an easy choice for me, but I would be thinking long and hard between the ZR-1 and the Zo6. And whichever Vette you pick, overall you won’t be disappointed. Any of those three will put a smile on your face whenever you take them out.

Yeah I owned a LT1 and the ride was... rough. Probably the least confortable stock car I’ve ever owned lol. I didn’t have much control problem when the tail was about to go, but I didn’t like the lack of front end precision the car entering corners. It felt a bit sloppy unless you had crazy grippy tires to compensate that.
I’d still go for the C5 over the LT1 if I had to get one again. I don’t mind the interior of the C5 and I like the fact that it has a LS1... On the other hand, I’m now an expert at optispark replacement so... :)

For $20k you can find a C6.

Do it, you won't regret it. But, for that price, you are pushing close to a C6

Probably, but itll be up there in miles. Corvettes are reliable though

No kidding. I had 170k miles on my 02 Z06 and had replaced or fixed....a water pump (didn't need to, but the thermostat stuck closed and, well, I had it apart and it was easy maintenance.) and a clutch that my dad burned out. That was it (other than normal stuff).

I can support anything Corvette related. The insurance is also stupid cheap for what it is.

A couple years ago I bought a C5 to replace my 2008 Civic Si and haven’t regretted it in any way. It’s easier on gas, cheaper on insurance, parts are cheaper (brakes and tires are the only things I’ve had to replace), and it rides just as well as the Honda.
I know a lot of people will say to get an average C6 instead of a nice C5, but make sure you drive them both before doing that. I thought the C6 drove too much like a really fast Malibu. Everything was easy. I think the C5 is just more fun! It hangs it’s tail out constantly and the steering feels great. The C6 is quite a bit faster, though. I ended up buying the nicest C5 I could find and wouldn’t have changed a thing!

Why buy a dad-spec Corvette when you can buy a chrome bumper C3 for less than 20k?
